Nuwber is one of many online data brokers. They gather personal information from a variety of online sources, then combine that data into a single report. Nuwber makes the profile available for purchase by anyone who wishes to buy it. Learn how to opt-out of Nuwber and remove your personal information.

Nuwber is an information company. Their website states that they are aware of the effects their information has on people's lives. They are aware that misinformation can be a problem and will do their best to provide accurate and reliable information.

You can search Nuwber's online profiles of millions of people to find out about their criminal history, social media profiles, and public records. They also provide information such as an address, age, and family members. While data providers such as Nuwber have a legitimate purpose (e.g., they can help you find someone calling you, or locate long-lost relatives or friends), they can also be used to stalk, predatory marketing, and identity theft, and other criminal activities.

How did Nuwber get my information?

Nuwber uses the following web scraping software:

• Email databases
• Phone directories
• Consumer indexes are a collection of your name, age, and address.
• Property records of government agencies, including tax records and real estate deeds
• Profiles on social media
• Court records include arrest records, traffic violations, and sex offender registry
• Vital statistics can be derived from government records such as birth certificates, death certificates, and marriage licenses.
• Directory listings that include your name, title, and email address.

Many people don't know that this information is online. Data broker companies such as Nuwber can also legally collect and sell your data. They will continue to make a profit off your personal data unless you opt out of these online databases. There is some good news. If you ask them, these data broker companies will comply with your request to delete your personal information from their sites.

How to Opt Out of Nuwber

The guide below will help you to decide if exercising more control over your personal information is worth the effort and time it takes.

The process described here will delete your personal data from Nuwber's databases. However, you'll still need to complete similar steps with other data brokers (including Intelius and PeekYou) to make sure that your personal details are virtually impossible to find online.

First, create an account on an email that does not include your name or any personally identifying information. The more generic the account, the better. This email will be used to complete the Nuwber removal process. To finalize your removal, you'll need to click on a link in a confirmation email.

Nuwber cannot retain (and possibly share) the email address that you use for personal or business correspondence by creating this temporary email account. We recommend using a ProtonMail account.

1) Perform a search.

Go to Nuwber to search for your name. This includes all variations online, such as professional names, maiden and nickname names, full and middle names, and even the name of your spouse.

2) Click I agree.

After you click on the search button, a note will appear that says: "Nuwber doesn't provide consumer reports and isn't a consumer reporting agency according to the Fair Credit Reporting Act/FCRA." Before you can view the results page, please read through the fine print and then click on I Agree.

3) Select "View Details"

Click on the results that pertain to you. Start with the state in which you live, and then click on your street address. Copy the URL to the page that contains all information about the addressee. 

You will be surprised at how much information Number holds about you, even if you don't have to pay for a premium listing. In this case, the full address was shown along with a list of email addresses and relatives.

4) Click "Nuwber Opt Out"

Next, scroll to the bottom of this page and click the purple NUWBER OPT-OUT button. The next page will take you to the URL of your profile. You can also navigate to the Nuwber opt-out page if you have an existing Nuwber profile URL. https://nuwber.com/removal/link

5) Confirm your Opt-Out request

Copy the URL that you have copied earlier and paste it into the first box. Click the orange OPT-OUT button, to officially begin the Nuwber opt-out process.

Next, enter the email address that you have access to in the second box. Click submit and check the CAPTCHA box.

To proceed to the next step in the Nuwber opt-out process, click the purple REMOVE button. A green pop-up will appear that says: "Please verify your email to receive further instructions." We have found that the confirmation email will not go to spam if it isn't located.

6) Confirm your email

To process your Nuwber opt-out request, check your email account. You can find it in your Spam folder if it isn't in your main email inbox. To confirm your request to remove the listing, open the email and click on the link.

Surprisingly, we received the confirmation email in just a few minutes that our Nuwber opt-out was successful. It was easy to return to the original listing. However, it returned a Page Not Found error.

This process will be repeated for all other listings that you want to remove.
